WHAT IS YOGA
Yoga is an amazing well being program offering a range of benefits
from posture, mobility, strength, relaxation, stress reduction, to
your full potential as a human being. It is your discovery, it is
not created or invented, it needs no name, no container, Yoga is a
key to unlock the mechanism in the door of life, the life that
exists beyond the constraints. There are many practised
interpretations of Yoga all of which no matter how pure,
established, westernised, diluted or radical offer the practitioner
the key to expanded consciousness and connect you to the possibility
that you are a spirit leading a human life. Remember anything is
possible; you just have to change your mind! The experience offered
promises nothing except an opportunity to create space within your
physical body, your mind and an opportunity to free your spirit, the
essence of your actual self into the ever expanding garden of
existence. There is a style and a teacher for every person with many
styles offered at Dragonfly yoga with a beautiful equipped yoga
studio enhancing the benefits yoga has to offer.
THE UNIQUENESS OF DRAGONFLY YOGA CLASSES
Dragonfly yoga is different to the run of the mill yoga class with a
definitive class for each individual, enabling one to work at their
own level. Normal every day yoga classes cater for the average
person and not for the varying levels of beginners, intermediate and
advanced students. For the experienced yogi, a general class can
lead to a stagnation of practise or possible injury to the new
recruit if the class is not tailored to their level. The wide range
of classes, styles and levels on offer, keeps the student fluid
within a variety of styles, melting duality understanding the
interconnectedness of the microcosm to the microcosm, unfolding a
progression physically, emotionally and spiritually.
STYLES OF YOGA
BEGINNERS
Classes are based on Hatha integrating the principles of Iyengar
Yoga ‘the safe skeletal alignment of the body’. You will learn how
to use the blocks and props correctly to keep your body correctly
aligned working at your own level. A rota program starts
very slowly, addressing fundamental principals not offered in every
day yoga classes: internal energy locks, philosophical along with
anatomical, skeletal structures addressing your personal frame and
build, major joint movements along with basic yoga postures,
breathing techniques and meditation. The beginner’s week one starts
slowly increasing each week in preparation for the next level of
class. An opportunity to attend and Assessment class is offered at the end
of the course. You will receive a certificate and report on your
progress. A variety of styles of yoga are gained throughout the
course. This is a wonderful class for any beginner or anyone wishing
to deepen their practise with a deeper understanding of the basics
and can start at any week during the rota.
STAGE 2 (Intermediate)
Works more on strengthening, opening and stabilising specific muscle
groups utilising all your knowledge gained within the beginners,
this class works at a quicker pace than beginners with additional
postures to develop a deeper practise. continuing to maintain the
ethics of Hatha & ‘Iyengar’ Yoga along with a variety of styles
(flow yoga, kundalini, ashtanga and restorative). Stage 2 addresses
yogic philosophy during relaxation providing information on dual and
non dual ideologies. Stage 2 is not a rota and is set with postures
suitable for those who have completed the beginners or have a little
yoga experience.
STAGE 3 (Advanced)
Is a strong yoga class incorporating postures from the Primary and
Second series Ashtanga Yoga. There are pre-requisites and an
assessment for attending this class, although anyone with Ashtanga
vinyasa primary series or teacher trainers can attend this class
without assessment. This class is a quick pace and working with
students who have knowledge and experience of correct alignment in a
variety of postures. The variety of yoga styles are offered at a
stronger capacity along with working on the internal limbs of
Patanjalis yoga sutras. This class is focussed yet fun continuing to
work at your personal level.
KUNDALINI YOGA AS TAUGHT BY YOGI BHAJAN
The most popular style of yoga at Dragonfly yoga... Classes in this
style are offered as a dedicated weekly evening class 1.5hrs, along
with once per month in beginners, stage 2 and stage. Kundalini Yoga
involves precise postures in a set routine for a set amount of time.
These routines are called Kryia’s and each Kryia has a theme:
anxiety, strengthening the nervous system, heart centre etc. There
are over 84,000 Kryia’s! The class opens with a chant, warm up, yoga
set (moving meditative postures include chanting and various
pranayama ‘breath work’)finishing with relaxation and meditation.
This style works more consciously on your subtle body energies,
strengthening and balancing your nervous system and endocrine
system. It is said kundalini yoga is 25 times more powerful within
its response emotionally and spiritually than any other form of
yoga. It’s a very beautiful style with fun and focus.
A fluid yoga class with each posture flowing effortlessly
with breath and movement. Flow yoga requires more physical stamina
working cardiovascular along with strength and flexibility. This is
a lead class yet enabling the yogi to work with their individual
movement maintaining internal focus akin to a moving meditation.
ASHTANGA PRIMARY SERIES VINYASA
This class is for those who have a small amount of yoga experience
onwards. Ashtanga Yoga is a system transmitted to the modern world
by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. This method of yoga involves synchronizing
the breath with a progressive series of postures in sequential
unchanging order.
Ashtanga means eight limbs working on the philosophy of Patanjali’s
yoga sutras. Vinyasa means breath synchronized movement. With
correct breathing vinyasa links asana to asana in a precise order
and is often termed yoga therapy as it purifies and strengthens your
nervous system and vital life force energy. This class is a fairly
demanding practise offering opportunity for to build strength,
stamina and flexibility in addition to all other yoga benefits.
